Retrogression

This evening, the Columbia County Board of Supervisors is having its official picture taken. The photograph below shows the Columbia County Board of Supervisors in 1936--almost eighty years ago.

Dress these guys up in present day attire and put them inside at 401 State Street (the supervisors stopped having their picture taken on the steps of the courthouse decades ago), and the result could almost resemble today's Columbia County Board of Supervisors. In 2014, there are only two women (Ellen Thurston and Sarah Sterling, both supervisors from Hudson) and only two people of color (Ed Cross and Bill Hughes, again both from Hudson) on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors.

The photograph of the 1936 Board of Supervisors was provided by Bob Weinman. His grandfather, George J. Weinman, is third from the left in the front row.
